New York City's Dept. of Homeless Services publishes a daily census of it's shelter population online. The daily census includes the total number of people in NYC's shelters every night as well as a breakdown of the total shelter population including the number of families, children, adult men, adult women, and number of families requesting housing.
HowMany is a simple web app that functions as a basic awareness tool, to remind us how many of our brothers and sisters spend their nights without a home. A better version of this site would include those people not counted in this census because they are not in shelters.
